D2L YCDSB
The Coronavirus in 2019 introduced many students and parents to distance learning. In this school district, this system of distance learning helped ensure students' safety.
eLearning is also a part of the culture at YCDSB to help meet the various needs and desires of their learners. For part of their semester, secondary students may partake in distance learning. They may partake in online courses for some course credits.
One key element of their online learning system is the phrase asynchronous (at different times). Students and teachers do not need to be online at the same time, so the schedule for students is more flexible.
D2L (Desire 2 Learn) system is one of the best systems available for online learning. Through Google Classroom, the D2L system has helped many children achieve their learning goals.
Google classroom uses cloud software. This is great for students and teachers since it helps secure and track assignments. Students can also add reminders to help keep them on track.
Online and distance learning has not weakened their values or credentials. Staff are the same well-trained and educated people as the in-person teachers. You won't need to worry, your children's education is top-notch online or in person.
Let's analyze this system in more detail for yourself and your student(s).
Parents
At York Catholic District Schools, parents are the glue of the entire operation. They believe that parents are the most important factor in determining the success of a student. Involvement in a child's development involves actively participating in a child's education.
There are many avenues available at York Catholic Schools which enable parents to take part directly with their children. These include church charity and volunteer functions, to direct involvement on the school board.
In whatever way you can, be sure your child knows they have your support. Especially with eLearning. be sure to check in on your child and ensure they feel confident and comforted having your support.
Students
Students are the bedrock of a school. They are the reason for the schools to exist and the hope of creating a better world in the future.
Students at YCDSB receive training in the values of stewardship, compassion, and the values of the Gospel.
Even with the advent of eLearning, the values and goals will not weaken nor compromise. Students must prove themselves as compassionate participants in their community.
Upon graduation, students are expected to have the values of compassion, love, and to be community-driven actors.
Community
YCDSB encourages students to be active participants in their community at large. In accordance with the values of the church, students become active participants in charity.
The school urges students to strive to commit to 10 hours of service each year. These projects can include various cleanup, assisting the elderly, and other projects which enable them to be disciples of God.
To graduate students must fulfil at least 40 hours of service during their high school years. This is to help mould them into responsible and caring citizens of the world.
D2L YCDSB Login
A student's success online depends on their ability to apply themselves to their learning experience. The login portal is the place where you will both set up your account and manage your course work.
It is important that you log in on a regular basis. Teachers are given a complete track record of each time a student access the portal. Through this record, they are able to determine if a student is actively participating or not.
Notify your teacher in advance if you foresee something arising which may disrupt your ability to log in.
If your teacher does not have contact with you for 3 days in a row they may contact you or your parents. After 5 days, the administrator may be contacted.
This is important to ensuring the success of the student and to guarantee they do not fall behind.
It is not necessary to be on at the same time as your teacher, but you need to show that you are present and engaged with the course.
eLearning YCDSB
Brightspace operates the D2L program in the school, a participant with Google Classroom. eLearning was designed for students in grades 11-12.

They offer many exciting courses for the 2021-2022 semester. These include Canadian history, local geography, as well as physics and space studies.
Per semester, each student is permitted to partake in one online course a piece. But, eLearning is not right for everyone.
To decide if it is right for you and your child, the school offers a helpful survey. This will help you and your child determine if distance learning is right for them.
When making this determination, consider if your child has adequate reading/writing comprehension? Remember, the teachers will be communicating primarily through the written word. If your child struggles in this area, distance learning may be difficult for them.
The eLearning system has a strict no-plagiarism rule. To prevent fraud they implement various online checks to ensure the work of their students is their own.
These systems include plagiarism checkers used by many colleges, such as Turnitin. Teachers also have tools, such as IP address trackers and tools to track tone use.
These tools help students remain honest with others and themselves. They also help ensure your child is learning and applying learning knowledge.
