We know that sometimes the Canadian health care system can be difficult to understand.
And while government health insurance is able to give you access to the more basic medical needs, many people also look into purchasing private insurance to extend their coverage.

Learn More About Manulife FollowMe Enhanced Plus
Manulife personal health insurance is one of the more popular plans offering extended benefits.
While Manulife offers many different types of plans to Canadians, in this post we're going to break down the Manulife FollowMe Enhanced Plus option.
There are many benefits to this type of Manulife health insurance, but you still need to go over the plan in detail to ensure that it's the right fit for you.
To understand more about the types of a dental, prescription drug, and more general health coverage you'll get with this plan, read on.
Dental Care
Let's first take a look at the dental care coverage offered by Manulife health insurance FollowMe Enhanced Plus.
In year one, you'll get 80% of a maximum of $700 per person of the costs of dental care reimbursed. That dental care must be on the list of included procedures (more on that in a minute.) In year two, you'll get 80% of up to $850 per individual of the costs reimbursed. In year three, you'll get 80% of up to $1,000 of the cost of care reimbursed.
You'll also be covered for recall visits every nine months, per individual.
While orthodontics, dentures, bridges, and crowns are excluded from coverage?
You will be covered for cleanings, fillings, exams, oral surgery and diagnostics, scalings, and more basic dental care.
Prescription Drugs
We know that understanding the type of prescription drug coverage that this Manulife health insurance plan offers is especially important to you.
In general, you can expect to get about 80% of up to $1,000 reimbursed, for each person, in certain generic drug costs.
It's important to note that some kinds of prescription drugs are not eligible for the reimbursement program.
These include drugs that help you to stop smoking, drugs for fertility and erectile dysfunction issues, and birth control pills. Also excluded are those medications that don't require a prescription from a doctor, as well as all over-the-counter drugs.
Eye and Vision Care
If you decide to become a Manulife plan member, let's take a look at the kind of eye care coverage that you can expect to receive.
In general, you'll get $200 for each individual every two years.
This will help you to cover the costs of things like frames for your glasses, your contact lenses, your glasses lenses, and even laser eye surgery.
You will also get $50 for each individual every two years, specifically to help you to manage the cost of going to see an optometrist.
Types of Specialists and Therapists
Now, let's quickly take a look at the types of therapists and specialists that are covered under the Manulife FollowMe Enhanced Plus plan.
You can see a chiropractor, physiotherapist, acupuncturist, naturopath, a registered massage therapist and a chiropodist.
They have an annual combined maximum of $600 per person, and you'll get $35 per person should you need any form of chiropractic x-ray.
When it comes to visiting a psychologist, the annual maximums are $80 for the initial consultation, and then $65 for each visit after that. You'll be covered for 10 sessions, per person, every year.
Speech therapy is also covered under this plan, with $65 for the initial visit, and then $45 for up to 10 visits a year after that.
Additional Coverage
Let's quickly go over a few of the additional types of coverage that you'll be able to get under this plan.
You'll receive an accidental death and dismemberment coverage of up to $25,000 for adults who are under 65 years of age at the time of the incident.
If a child or someone over the age of 65 is harmed, then you'll get $10,000 worth of coverage.
Should you find yourself needing an ambulance, you'll be glad to know that this plan offers you unlimited transportation on both the ground and in the air.
Should any kind of accidental dental work become necessary, you'll be able to get an annual per person maximum of $2,500 worth of coverage.
Should someone in your home need nursing or home care?
For the first year, you'll be able to have a $1,000 maximum. For the second year, you're looking at a maximum of $1,500. For the third year that you're covered by the plan, you'll get $3,000 worth of coverage.
