Travel Insurance Overview

romania flag

Canada and Romania have enjoyed a bilateral and diplomatic relationship over the years. As a matter of fact, the two countries celebrated 50 years of diplomatic relations in 2017.

Up to 250,000 Canadians claim Romanian ancestry. The countries also enjoy commercial relations in terms of trade and investment, science and technology, innovations and so forth.

As a result of the strong people-to-people ties and relations between the two countries, Canadians travel to Romania for several purposes ranging from business, tourism, education, work and so forth.

A lot of Canadians traveling abroad to Romania forget to get additional medical coverage or Romania travel insurance that would cover them and their loved ones throughout their stay in Romania.

Romania Travel Insurance News

Prior to December 2017, Romanians are required to apply for a Canadian visitor visa, commonly known as Temporary Resident Visa or TRV but this is no longer the case. Romanians visiting Canada on a temporary basis no longer have to apply for TRV.

Even though Romanians no longer require a visa to enter Canada, they will need an Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA). This should be obtained even before boarding the flight to Canada. The December 1, 2017 visa exemption was applied to Romanians and Bulgarians.

To enter Canada, visitors are required to have either an eTA or a TRV but United States citizens are exempted from this requirement.

The Honorable Ahmed Hussen, Minister of Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship for Canada, said that Canada values its strong ties with Romania, Bulgaria, and the EU and is pleased to provide visa-free travel to citizens of EU member states. He added that more travel and trade will be encouraged if traveling to Canada is made easier for Romanians and Bulgarians. This will, in turn, create new investment opportunities, trade, and businesses both for Canadians and Europeans.
