You can buy travel insurance policy while traveling anywhere in the world. You don’t have to be in Canada to purchase the coverage.

However, if you purchase coverage while away from Canada, there is a 3-day waiting period (72 hours) from the moment you purchase the coverage to the time it will start. But, you will still be covered during this waiting period if you suffer an acute serious injury due to an accident. Besides such coverage, any other coverage will begin after the waiting period.

You can even buy more coverage while away from home. If you purchase a new policy before your current one expires, you will not go through a waiting period. Make sure you read the policy details properly to know how much coverage you have.
