When Jazz, a toy fox terrier-Chihuahua mix was brought to the Sanctuary, she was anxious and fearful of everything and everyone. Jazz was living in a litter with a lot of dogs when a disaster struck. A terrible fire devastated her home and she was one of the few to make it out but it changed everything about her.

After the disaster, Jazz began to see the world in an entirely different way. She no longer feels safe. Many of the dogs who survived the incident were sent to local rescuing groups. Jazz, alongside her three friends, was sent to the Sanctuary.

The dog needed to recover from her nightmare and she required a lot of therapy. While her friends easily made it through the rescue home, Jazz had difficulty recovering from the incident. Her fear was overwhelming her and she didn’t know how to handle them.

However, the toy fox terrier soon began to fight her fears, thanks to the help and assistance from Dogtown caregivers and volunteers. She learned how to overcome them. She began by learning basic cues like “sit”, “down”, “wait”, “go to your place”, etc. This helped her to rebuild her self-confidence and trust in people.

She began stepping out of her comfort zone by attending classes for shy dogs in Dogtown. She also began to visit busy places close to the Sanctuary. The toy fox terrier became especially interested in agility course in Dogtown. With each step she takes, she became more confident.
