Toronto-Dominion (TD) Bank is a multinational banking and financial services headquartered in Toronto, Ontario. The history of TD can be traced as back as 1855 with the establishment of the Bank of Toronto and in 1869 with the establishment of The Dominion Bank. The two banks latter merged in 1955 to form Toronto-Dominion Bank.
TD was rated by Standard & Poor’s as the largest bank in Canada by total assets as well as the second largest bank in Canada by market capitalization. In addition, it also ranked TD as one of the top 10 banks in North America and the 26th largest bank in the world.
The bank has four major subsidiary companies, namely, TD Securities, TD Waterhouse, TD Bank N.A, and TD Asset Management. Together with its subsidiaries, TD employs more than 85,000 people across the world. In addition, the company has 22 million clients worldwide in 2014.
Moreover, the bank had a total revenue of CAD$36.1 billion, a net income of CAD$10.5 billion, and a total asset of CAD$1.2 trillion in 2017. TD Insurance is evidently one of the largest financial organizations in Canada and operates in two sectors: general insurance, and life and health insurance.
