Great-West Life Assurance is an insurance company headquartered in Winnipeg, Manitoba, founded in 1891. It is one of the subsidiaries of Great-West Lifeco, a member of the Power Financial Corporation group of companies. Other subsidiaries of Great-West Lifeco include London Life Insurance Company, Canada Life Financial, Great-West Life & Annuity Insurance Co. and Putnam Investments.
Great-West sold its U.S division of health insurance to Cigna for $1.5 billion USD. The deal was announced on November 26, 2017. Great-West Life has more than 13 million Canadian customers, has paid over $9.1 billion benefits and has up to $100 billion in retirement and investment holdings for Canadians.
