Co-operators Life Insurance Company was founded in 1945 by farmers in Saskatchewan; its parent company is the Co-operators and its subsidiary is the CUMIS Group Limited. Other subsidiaries of the Co-operators include Co-operators General Insurance Company, HB Group Insurance of Mississauga, the Sovereign General Insurance Company of Calgary, and Addenda Capital of Montreal.
The Co-operators Group Limited is owned by 44 members including credit union centrals, Co-ops, and representative farm organizations. The company is headquartered in Guelph, Ontario and it is one of the leading multi-line insurance companies in Canada.
The group offers investment products as well as several insurance services such as home, auto, travel, farm, life, and business insurance. The Co-operators and its group of subsidiaries have over $44 billion in assets under administration as of 2016.
