Calgary is the largest city in the province of Alberta and the third largest municipality in Canada. According to the 2016 population census, the city of Calgary has a population of 1,239,220. Furthermore, the city has the fourth largest Census Metropolitan Area (CMA) in Canada with a population of 1,392,609.
The city is known for its high quality of life; this has earned Calgary the Global Liveability Ranking’s fourth most livable city in the world. Also, Calgary had the highest number of millionaires per capita of any major city in Canada in 2015.
Calgary’s economic activities are centered around technology, financial services, energy, health and wellness, tourism, manufacturing, aerospace, transportation and logistics and so forth. The oil and gas industry contributes enormously to the economy of Calgary but several other industries also contribute largely.
The city of Calgary is rich in culture and arts. It hosts several annual festivals and events. Some of the interesting festivals include Calgary Folk Music Festival, Beakerhead arts, science, and engineering festival, the Folk Music Festival, Sled Island Music Festival to mention a few.
