What Does Green Shield Canada Cover?
Green Shield Canada (GSC) delivers innovative health and dental benefits products. They offer a wide range of health and dental insurance plans which include dental, health, vision and extended benefits which when customized, meet the unique needs of diverse Canadians. Green Shield also offers various types of health and wellness programs which include assistance for weight management and smoking cessation programs.
Green Shield ZONE Plans
The Green Shield ZONE Plans are designed to give everyone health coverage. There are a total of 7 zones for you to choose from, and acceptance is guaranteed at all tiers.
The Zone Fundamental Health Insurance Plan
These plans include coverage for prescription drugs, vision care that includes eye exams, contact lenses and eyeglasses, chiropractor, massage, mental health, speech therapy, and travel health insurance. Acceptance is generally guaranteed and no medical questions are asked when a person applies.
Green Shield Zone 2 Plan
This plan offers all of the same benefits that are included in the Fundamental plan with guaranteed acceptance, dental and vision care, extended health care and travel medical coverage. What’s more is that the Zone 2 plan is specifically designed for those with pre-existing conditions. There is also no waiting period and you receive instant access to your pay-direct benefit card.
Zone 3 and 4 Basic Health and Dental Insurance Plans
This plan comes with dental coverage, but no prescription drug coverage, and Zone 4 includes prescription drug coverage but no dental coverage. Both Zones 3 and 4 are loaded with mental health care, extended health care, travel medical insurance and hospital services.
Zone 5, 6 and 7 Plans
Zone 5 includes all the coverage included in Zones 1-4, plus there’s a generous increase for dental care in the first three years, and extensive vision coverage that increases in the first five years.
The more comprehensive zones 6 & 7 includes orthodontic coverage, available after the third year of being a policyholder. Dental coverage increases after the first year, and vision care increases for the first five years.
Green Shield LINK Plans
The Green Shield LINK Plans are quite comparable to the Zone plans offered by Green Shield. What sets apart the LINK plans from the Zone plans is that the LINK plans are designed for individuals about to retire. Though guaranteed acceptance is warranted here too, there is a medical questionnaire in order to qualify. The prescription drugs you are currently taking will not be included in your new Green Shield LINK plan. The Green Shield LINK plans were specifically curated to accommodate policy holders with pre-existing medical conditions - private or semi-private hospital rooms are included in the LINK plans. LINK 1 does not include dental care, LINKS 2 and 3 do, and LINK 4 has extended dental care, and includes orthodontics.
