Vaughan is an Ontarian city, located north of Toronto in the Regional Municipality of York. Its growth rate from 1996 to 2006 was the fastest of all municipalities in Canada, up to 80.2% according to Statistics Canada. The city is the fifth largest in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) and the seventeenth largest city in Canada. Vaughan has a land area of 273.56 square kilometers and hence a population density of 1,119.4 per square kilometer.
The city of Vaughan was settled in 1792, incorporated as a town in 1852 (as a result of this, the municipality government was established) and as a city in 1991. Vaughan contains a lot of small and large corporations that employ its residents. These include Alexander Dennis, Canadian National Railway, TC Transcontinental, Canada’s Wonderland, and Toys R Us Canada.
It consists of five communities. Most Vaughan residents identify more with their communities than they do with the city itself. The communities include Woodbridge, Maple, Concord, Thornhill, and Kleinburg.
The city is notable for several attractions and events. Some of the most notable attractions in Vaughan include Baitul Islam Mosque, Boyd Conservation Area, Canada’s Wonderland (the largest amusement park in Canada), Reptilla Zoo, J. E. H. MacDonald House, Vaughan Mills, Kortright Center for Conservation, and McMichael Canadian Art Collection.
