News about Brantford

The Brant County Health Unit urges everyone to get their flu shot in order to protect the community against the disease. The flu vaccine is available to the public through pharmacies and family doctors.

According to the Medical Officer of Health at the Brant County Health Unit, the flu shot is the best protection against the disease. This is because your body will need up to two weeks after taking the vaccine to build up immunity against the disease. Thus, it is highly recommended to get the flu shot as early as you can.

Since the Health Unit is not hosting any community clinic, the Brant County Health Unit is encouraging every resident of the city to visit their family doctor or pharmacy to get their flu shot. Dr. Lock advised residents to get the flu shot not just because they want to protect themselves from the flu but because they want to protect the community from the disease. He also pointed out that it is particularly important for children, seniors, and pregnant women to get the flu shot because they are at greater risk of getting seriously ill from the disease.

The disease can be spread through the air by sneezing or coughing. It can also be spread by direct contact. Symptoms of the disease include high fever, headache, runny nose, muscle aches, coughing, fatigue and so forth.
