Clarington is an Ontarian city, located in the Regional Municipality of Durham; it is a lower-tier municipality in the regional municipality. The city was established in 1974 and has a population of 92,013 based on the 2016 Canadian population census, making it the 61st most populated city in Canada. Furthermore, Clarington has a land area of 611.3 square kilometers and a population density of 138.3 per square kilometers.
Clarington was formed with the merger of the town of Bowmanville and the townships of Darlington and Clarke. The merged city was renamed to “Clarington” – a name formed from the prefix of “Clarke” and suffix of “Darlington”. The municipality of offices of Clarington is located in the city’s largest community – Bowmanville.
The city of Clarington belongs to the Oshawa CMA, located in the eastern part of the Greater Toronto Area (GTA). Most residents of Clarington work in Toronto or in the Durham Region. However, the city has a few companies; major employers in the city include General Motors of Canada and Darlington Nuclear Generating Station. The city also has a number of medium and large-sized manufacturing companies.
Clarington has a number of attractions. It is home to five Christmas parades and has a lot of Santa Claus and Christmas parades. Some other attractions in the city include the Bowmanville Zoo, the Clarington Family Outdoor Adventure Park, and so forth.
