Lévis is a city in the Canadian province of Quebec. It is located towards the eastern part of the province, south of St. Lawrence River, and opposite Quebec City. As of July 2017, the city has a population of 144,147. The current Lévis is a result of the merger of ten cities in Quebec including Old Lévis on January 1, 2002. The older Lévis was established in 1861. The city’s population grew by 6.7% from 2011 to 2016 as shown by the 2016 population census. Lévis has a total land area of 497 square kilometers; in other words, the population density of the city is 308.8 per square kilometers.
Many people live and work in Lévis even though it is a relatively small city. This is because of the presence of several large employers in the city. Several companies are located in Lévis including; the headquarters of Desjardins Financial Securities, a subsidiary of Desjardins Financial Group; Ultramar refinery, one of the largest refineries in Canada and so forth. The city is also a home to high tech companies such as Creaform, as well as renowned agricultural business research and development centers. The city also houses a regional shopping mall known as Les Galeries Chagnon which contains 106 stores.
