If you are looking for a dog that rarely barks, there are a lot of considerations to make but Basenji should probably be your first choice.

Megan Stanley, dog behavior consultant and owner of Dogma Training and Pet Services, Inc., said that there is no guarantee that a certain breed will not have nuisance barking concerns. Stanley added that the best way to prevent barking is through adequate physical and mental exercise, positive training, coupled with the overall wellbeing of the dog.

But Basenjis, also known as barkless dogs, are at the top of the list of dogs that rarely bark. Some experts believe that this could because of the shape of their larynx. However, the dog communicates in different ways such as by yodeling, commonly known as the basenji yodel.

Some other dog breeds that rarely bark include Great Dane, Newfoundland dogs, Bulldogs, French Bulldogs, Irish Setters, Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, Greyhounds, Shiba Inu, The Coton de Tulear, Saint Bernards, Chow Chow, Malamutes, and Mastiffs.
